the only upside to being depressed or feeling lonely is that Radiohead sounds way more sweeter.

I can remember as a kid I used to hate when my grandad played this song in the car. Although I never used to say anything. Anyway, one day, I asked why he likes it. He just smiled and said that one day I'd understand why he plays it. Now, I absolutely understand and every time I hear it I think of what he said.

I always thought that this was a really soothing and atmospheric song, and then I read the lyrics and it became a lot more depressing than I initially thought it was.

You can hear it, can't you? That little voice: the one that's telling you don't, don't stare too long, don't touch, don't do anything you might regret. I used to be the same. Whenever I wanted something, I could hear that little voice telling me to stop, to be careful, to leave most of my life unlived. You know the only place that voice left me alone? In my dreams. I was free. I could be as good or as bad as I felt like being, and if I wanted something, I could just reach out and take it, but then I would wake up, and the voice would start all over again. So I ran away, crossed the shining sea, and when I finally set foot on solid ground, the first thing I heard was that goddamn voice. Do you know what it said? \

So many of you will probably hate me for this but Radiohead is like Coldplay's blacksheep sibling. They both have zero bad songs, theyre both british, Radiohead just knows how to connect with the emotion a little more.

that your family finds your body hanging from a rope from the neck, lifeless, should be the perfect setting for this song :(.

This song is like an anthem for the thirtysomething. The simultaneous creeping terror of- and longing for- conformity, security and settling down into comfortable middle age. Always been my interpretation, anyway.
Sera
Such a beautiful song, it feels sad and happy at the same time. So cathartic.

If you don't pay attention to the fact that it's about suicide, this is a really calming song.
Strange Attractor
Breaking up with the one girl who ever truly loved me, around this single was released (heart full up like a landfill, bruises that won't heal), then a few years later the crushing disappointment of adult life and work (a job that slowly kills you), marching against the Iraq war (bring down the government, they don't speak to us), finally buying property and slowly suffocating in the transition to middle age (I'll take a quiet life... such a pretty house...) Each Radiohead song is a constellation of memories and their whole body of work is a star map in my mind.

I'm 99% sure the bell (?) sound in this song is sampled from hospital equipment of some sort. I recognized that sound when I was in a psychiatric hospital, I just couldn't tell what the sound was coming from in particular.

I'd like to listen this music at the last moments of my life. I wish to fade away just like this feeling.

i’m sick of feeling sad. all day everyday. i kind of feel like music is my only outlet i have. i always find myself coming back to songs like this, it gives me a sense of relativeness. i’ve tried to talk to people, yet i’m yet to come across someone who actually understands. sorry for dumping out all of my feeling on a radiohead music video lol, just kind of had to get it out.

The strange thing with many Radiohead songs is, they are depressing and uplifting at the same time

nothing like crying to Radiohead on a Friday night

As a mid 20s guy with lots of loneliness throughout life, this song is my only companion. It doesn't break my heart and doesn't disappoint me. And I feel less alone that there are people like me here as well, although it's ironic.

The comments under this video are more depressing than the song
keysaysmeowistniemand
I think about this song a lot, especially lately because it describes me so well. I'm only 22 but I feel like I am at the end of my rope with life. I am so disappointed in myself, overworked, under paid (even at 22), low future prospects, no one believes in me, my family just about disowned me etc etc. I can't even hold down most foods, I'm so depressed but some how this song soothes me, almost like someone understands lol

Why do I always end up listening to this on a friday night, alone in my bed

Radiohead's music can save a suicidal person. Ironic huh?It is funny that while listening to their drepressing songs (in a good way), you'll enjoy living a suicidal feeling without taking your own life.

In this video Thom had to do multiple takes since it was so hard for him to hold his breath for that long. In fact the behind the scenes video shows him getting upset over it. (I can't blame him) so thats why he started smiling at the end
stuffguy666
I love Thom Yorke's vocal range.

this is the first song my oldest son ever heard 18 years ago on the way home from the hospital.
